FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have a question that isn't covered here? Email us at info@stjohns-inn.com. We're always happy to help! For the house rules guests agree to when booking, please see our Guest Policies page.

Before You Book

1. How do I book a suite?

Right on our website! Go to StJohns-Inn.com and click "Check Availability & Rates" to see live rates and availability and to reserve your suite. All of our reservations are made through the website, and if the booking page gives you any trouble, just let us know.

2. Which suite is right for me?

All four suites look out over the Willamette River, where you can watch the ships go by.

  • Penthouse: our entire top floor, with a kitchenette and en suite bathroom. Sleeps up to 4, and everyone's favorite!

  • Deluxe: our largest second-floor suite, with an en suite bathroom, its own refrigerator, a big living room and TV. Sleeps 2.

  • Riverside: a second-floor suite with an en suite bathroom. Sleeps 2.

  • Rotunda: a second-floor suite with a private bathroom just down the hallway, reserved for your use only. Sleeps 2.

3. Does the rate change with the number of guests?

For one or two guests, it's the same rate. We always set the suites up for two either way, so you get double towels and treats! The guest count on your reservation helps us keep track of who's in the building for safety and security. For guests beyond two in the Penthouse, please see Extra Guests in the Penthouse in our Guest Policies.

4. Is the inn ADA accessible?

We wish we had easier access! The inn isn't ADA accessible. Our guest suites are on the second and third floors of our 1910 building, reached by an outdoor staircase of about 24 steps, and the building doesn't have an elevator or lift. If stairs are a concern, give us a call and we'll talk it through together.

Arriving

5. What are check-in and check-out times? Can I check in early or check out late?

Check-in is at 4:00 pm and check-out is by 11:00 am. Early check-in or late check-out may be available on request. Before your stay, reply to your confirmation email with the time you'd like. On your arrival day or during your stay, please text us. Up to 60 minutes early or late is free when it works with our housekeeping schedule. For more than 60 minutes, the fee is $25. If you'll be arriving after 10:00 pm, please text us ahead of time.

6. How does check-in work?

It's easy self check-in! On your arrival day, once your suite is ready, we'll text you everything you need, including your door codes, so you can head right to your suite when you arrive. If you're arriving later in the evening, please be mindful of guests who may already be asleep. Since we're a small inn with just four suites, there isn't a front desk, but you can always call or text us with questions.

7. Can I drop off my luggage early?

Sure! Just call or text at least 30 minutes ahead so we can be there to receive your bags.

8. Is there parking?

Yes! Parking is included, in our off-street lot right at the inn. Please text us the year, make, model and color of your vehicle (a photo showing the license plate works too). If you have a visitor staying more than 30 minutes, please text us their vehicle info as well. If you'd like to leave your car with us for a bit before check-in, just text us the details when you drop it off.

9. How do I get here from the airport?

The inn is about 40 minutes by car from Portland International Airport (PDX). Planning to use public transit? Let us know and we'll send you options.

Your Suite

10. Is there wi-fi?

Yes! Wi-fi is included, and the password comes with your check-in text.

11. Is breakfast included? Is there coffee or a fridge?

We don't serve meals, but we do provide coffee, tea, bottled water and some little treats to get your day started. The shared kitchenette in the second-floor hallway has a Keurig with coffee, cream and sugar, black and mint tea, a small refrigerator, a microwave and a toaster. The Penthouse has its own similarly outfitted kitchenette, and the Deluxe suite has its own refrigerator. There are lots of great breakfast spots nearby (see "Where should we eat?" below).

12. What amenities are in the suite?

Each suite has a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body soap and fresh towels, plus a window or portable air conditioner and a fan to keep you comfortable through Portland's summers. For guests with allergies, we wash all linens with Seventh Generation Free & Clear and a little bleach, and we steer clear of anything with fragrance.

13. Is there laundry at the inn?

We don't offer laundry service, but there are good options nearby: a laundromat by the Safeway and a laundry service called Peacock.

The Neighborhood

14. Where should we eat?

We don't have a restaurant on site, but there are lots of restaurants within about five blocks, and you'll find our favorites on the recommendation sheet in your suite. The closest is McMenamins St Johns, with reliable pub fare that's always good. For breakfast, John Street Cafe has a full menu and super omelettes, and Cathedral Coffee has sweet and savory baked goods. There are plenty of food carts nearby too.

Policies

For the full details on each of these, please see our Guest Policies page.

15. What's your cancellation policy?

Because we have just four suites, we keep a firm cancellation policy. Please read Cancellations and Changing Your Dates in our Guest Policies before booking.

16. Can we bring children?

We love children, but certain sounds, such as high voices and thumpy little feet, can carry in our 1910 wood building. Please read the full Children section of our Guest Policies before booking.

17. Can I bring my dog?

We're generally a pet-free inn, but we're happy to consider exceptions for small, calm dogs when guests call or email prior to booking. Please read the full Pets section of our Guest Policies for details and fees.

18. Can I have visitors? What are the quiet hours? Is smoking allowed?

  • Visitors: You're welcome to have up to two visitors per suite between 9:00 am and 10:00 pm. Additional visitors must be approved by the manager ahead of time.

  • Quiet Hours: Quiet hours are 10:00 pm to 9:00 am, so everyone can enjoy a restful stay.

  • Smoke-Free Inn: Smoking, e-cigarettes, vaping and marijuana are prohibited indoors.

19. We're coming for a wedding. Can we get ready in our suite?

Congratulations! Please read Getting Ready for Weddings in our Guest Policies, which covers the main floor bridal salon and groom's parlor and what's allowed in the guest suites.

20. Can I host a party, photo shoot or other event during my stay?

Events, parties, commercial photo shoots, filming and other commercial activities are prohibited in the guest rooms. The main floor event rooms are available for these activities. Please read the full Events, Parties and Commercial Activities section of our Guest Policies, which explains how to request one.
